Moon Township, Pa. ? Jan. 23, 2009? The Robert Morris University women's track and field team welcomed Carnegie Mellon University, Geneva College, Ohio University, Washington and Jefferson and Youngstown State to the Charles L. Sewall Center on Friday evening for the RMU Six-Way Meet. In the Colonial's lone home meet of the indoor season, a total of five athletes earned top-three finishes.
Melitta Brown (York, Ontario / Sacred Heart) highlighted the meet for the Colonials, earning a first-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.77 seconds and tying for second in the high jump by reaching a height of 1.66 meters. Emily Ingle (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone) also tallied a first-place finish, crossing the finish line in 2:21.40 in the 800-meter run.
Jessica Duffell (Punxsutawney, Pa. / Punxsutawney) and Erica Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) placed second in their respective events, with Duffell finishing the mile in a time of 5:45.02 and Schmidt leaping to a height of 3.20 meters in the pole vault.
Samantha Simile (Washington, Pa. / Chartiers ? Houston) notched top marks in the 600-meter dash and the 55-meter hurdles, recording a mark of 1:45.05 in the 600-meter for a third-place finish and taking the fifth spot in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.00 seconds.
Also earning top marks at the meet was freshman Dana Perry (Columbia, Md. / Howard), who placed fourth in the triple jump with a bound of 10.30 meters and finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 4.81 meters. Freshman Aisha Chisholm (New Rochelle, N.Y. / New Rochelle) and sophomore Corinne Moser (Meyersdale, Pa. / Meyersdale) also represented the Colonials in the jumping events earning fifth-place marks in their respective events. Chisholm reached a mark of 5.03 meters in the long jump and Moser notched a mark of 10.23 meters in the triple jump.
Gabriella Rinehart (Norristown, Pa. / Norristown) and Tara Maxwell (Butler, Pa. / Butler) represented RMU in the throwing events, with Rinehart earning the fifth spot in the shot put with a lob of 12.00 meters and Maxwell placing sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.84 meters.
The Colonials head to State College, Pa. next weekend to compete in the Penn State National Open on Jan. 30-31.
