Davis, Calif. ? March 14, 2009 ? The Robert Morris University Colonials return home from California with a perfect 2-0 record after they defeated the UC Davis Aggies, 13-8, on Saturday afternoon at Aggie Stadium. The Colonials led the contest for the entire game except for the first five minutes of action.

Jennifer Collins (Edgewater, Md. / South River) and Kara Blakeley (Gibsonia, Pa. / Pine Richland) led the way for the Colonials, scoring a trio of goals each, while Jillian Howley (East Northport, N.Y. / Northport) and Courtney Sicinski (Downintown, Pa. / Downingtown West) each added a pair of goals for the second straight game. Howley also tallied two assists in the game to lead the squad in points with four, while Sicinski led the team in caused turnovers with three. Junior goalie Erica Webb (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) put in another solid performance with 12 saves, while also adding four ground balls and sophomore Ashley Trombetta (Sykesville, Md. / Century) led the team in ground balls with five.

UC Davis started off the game winning the opening draw, which led to an immediate goal 23 seconds into the game.  RMU's Howley responded less than a minute later to even the score at 1-1.

At 3:27, Brittany Farquharson took advantage of a free-position shot to retake the lead for the Aggies and then Gina Hoffmire found the net again for UC Davis to increase their lead to 3-1.

Robert Morris rookie Sicinski was waiting in front of the Aggie net and received a pass from Ashley Levering (Glenwood, Md. / Glenelg) to pop the ball into the net at 4:51, recording the Colonials second goal. Less than two minutes later the Colonials scored again when Trombetta intercepted a pass and ran the ball all the way down the field and gave the ball up to Collins who went in for the score to knot the game 3-3.

The Colonials were able to take over the lead for the first time in the contest at 8:18 when Levering grabbed a rebound shot and fired it into the net to set the score at 4-3 in the Colonials' favor.

On both sides of the field, the defensive units were playing resiliently leaving the game scoreless for 14 minutes. Finally at 22:37 Robert Morris changed the pace of the game when Blakely ran through the Aggie defense and straight to the net to increase the Colonials' lead to 5-3.

That goal triggered a scoring streak for the Colonials as the quickly gained a five goal advantage in the remaining seven minutes of action. Robert Morris headed into the second half of action leading 8-3.

It looked like the Colonials were going to have to sit on their five goal cushion from the first-half, as they were outscored four-to-one throughout the first 21 minutes of the second-half. The closest score in the second half was 9-7.

Within the last eight minutes of play, the Colonials regained their edge when Howley sent the ball over to Emily Tomlinson (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) on a free-position attempt to dump the ball into the net to increase RMU's lead to 10-7.

Less than a minute later Howley found a loose ball and weaved her way through the Aggie defense for her second goal of the game.

Collins and Blakely were able to score once more apiece before the end of regulation, while UC Davis scored once to end the game with a final 13-8 score.

The Colonials head back east to take on cross-town rival Duquesne on Tuesday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m.
