RMU Competes at NCAA East Regional Championship

Greensboro, N.C.  ? May 31, 2009 ? The Robert Morris University men's and women's track and field team wrapped up the 2009 Outdoor Track and Field season when it traveled to Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T to compete in the 2009 NCAA East Regional Championship this past weekend.

Freshman Gabriella Rinehart (Norristown, Pa. / Norristown Area), sophomore Samantha Simile (Washington, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) and junior Erica Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) all competed in the meet due to winning their event at the 2009 Northeast Conference Championship, while junior Ashley Turici (Zelienople, Pa. / Seneca Valley) and Kevin Argauer (Honeoye, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls) earned qualifying marks during the season in the javelin and hammer throw, respectively.

Argauer represented the men by competing in the hammer throw and finished 20th with a mark of 54.15-meters. In the women's javelin event Turici also earned a 20th place finish by sending the javelin 39.56-meters.

Simile was the final athlete to place at the meet and took the 36th spot in the 400-meter hurdle preliminaries, finishing in a personal best time of 1:03.75.
