Schmidt Breaks 10-Year-Old School Record at Penn State

Moon Township, Pa. - January 11, 2010 - This past weekend the Robert Morris University women's track and field team traveled to University Park, P a. to compete in the Penn State Indoor Relays and came home with several top performances. Senior Erica Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) led the Colonials by breaking a 10-year-old school record in the pole vault.

Schmidt placed seventh in the pole vault event with a leap of 10-11.75 in route to set the RMU record. Senior Melitta Brown (York, Ontario / Sacred Heart) led the Colonials in the jumping events by placing eighth in the high jump with a mark of 4-11. She then placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 16-10.75. In the triple jump, Lakeshia McCloud (Bath, N.Y. / Haverling) placed fourth with a jump of 35-11.50.

Taylor Crawford (Woodbury, Pa. / Northern Bedford) earned RMU's final top finish by placing third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.25.

The Colonials head to Kent, Ohio on January 16 to compete in the Doug Raymond Open.
