Colonials Fall at Colgate, 4-1

Hamilton, N.Y. - On Friday night, the Robert Morris University men's hockey team opened a five-game road stint in Starr Rink on the campus of Colgate University.  The Raiders jumped out to an early two goal lead as they easily snapped the Colonials' four-game winning streak with their 4-1 triumph.

Robert Morris, now 7-13-3 overall, was outshot 32-26 but held Colgate scoreless on two, man-advantage situations.

"Colgate was more intense and mentally ready to play from the start...we were not" said head coach Derek Schooley. "We got better as the game went on, but the first period made the difference."

Seven minutes into the contest, the Raiders struck as they netted their first score of the night from Jason Williams.  With the 1-0 lead, Colgate's Robbie Bourdon tacked on another tally with only 30 seconds remaining in the opening session to head into the first intermission with the two goal advantage.

RMU returned to the ice in the second with a high level of intensity as they cut the Raider lead down to just one 2:38 into the period.  One minute into a power play, freshman Zach Hervato (Stittsville, Ontario / Smiths Falls Bears) recorded the second marker of his career with assists from Denny Urban (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Ohio Blue Jackets) and Nathan Longpre (Peterborough, Ontario / Mahoning Valley Phantoms).

Unfortunately for the Colonials, Colgate would regain their two-score edge at the 9:35 mark of the middle frame when Corbin McPherson put the Raiders back on top, 3-1.

Despite putting an eight additional shots on net in the third, RMU came up empty handed in the final twenty minutes of play.

The Raiders would add their fourth and final goal with exactly one minute remaining in the contest as Ethan Cox tapped in an empty net score.

Sophomore Brooks Ostergard (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Bay State Breakers) allowed three goals while making 28 saves in net for the Colonials.

Robert Morris and Colgate will tangle again tomorrow evening in Starr Rink at 7:00 p.m. before the Colonials travel to Bemidji, Minn. to face the CHA's top team, #14 Bemidji State.
