Moon Township, Pa. - January 25, 2010 - This past weekend the Robert Morris University women's track and field team hosted the Robert Morris Invitational on Friday evening at the Charles L. Sewall center and earned a total of 13 top-three finishes. Seton Hill, IUP, West Liberty College, Geneva, Youngstown State and Carnegie Mellon all competed at the meet.
Senior Emily Ingle (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone) earned the Colonials first top finish by earning gold in the one mile run with a time of 5:22.34. In the 1000 meter run, Kristie Domis (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) placed second, crossing the finish line in a time of 3:12.58 and junior Aimee Ossler (Munhall, Pa. / Serra Catholic) took first in the 300-meter dash, clocking in at 44.38. Sophomore Ashley Slifko (Carnegie, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) closed out RMU's top individual running performances with a second-place finish in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:42.41.
The RMU distance medley team of Abbey Lape (Lancaster, Ohio / Lancaster), Marie George (Johnstown, Pa. / Richland), Gillian Stern (Wharton, N.J. / Wharton) and Debra Ostrander (Denton, Md. / North Carolina) grabbed gold with a time of 13:47.27.
Senior Jovanna Kirkling (Greensburg, Pa. / Hemfield) placed first in the weight throw with a heave of 12.45 meters and Megan Green (Bellaire, Ohio / Bellaire) placed third with a mark of 11.79 meters. Gabriella Rinehart (Norristown, Pa. / Norristown Area) also earned a top finish in the throwing events by taking first in the shot put with a lob o f12.68 meters. Green earned another bronze finish with a mark of 11.77 in the shot put.
In the pole vault, senior Erica Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) took the top spot with a new RMU record of 3.43 meters, while freshman Sarah Lueck placed third with a mark of 3.05 meters.
The Colonials earned the second and third spot in the triple jump, with Aisha Chisholm (New Rochelle, N.Y. / New Rochelle) securing second with a jump of 10.82 meters and Katrina Lamar (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro) taking third with a mark of 10.62 meters.
The Colonials return to action this Friday, January 29 through Saturday, January 30 when they travel to Bowling Green, Ohio to compete in the Bowling Green Invitational.
