Robert Morris Knocks off Ohio State, 4-3, to Stay Unbeaten

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team pushed its record to 3-0-0 for the first time in school history Friday night knocking off Ohio State, 4-3.

James Lyle (Nepean, Ontario / Smiths Falls Bears) found the net at the 12:02 mark of the third period on power-play to send the Colonials to the victory. Ohio State battled hard against the Colonials coming back from a two-goal deficient but Robert Morris would not be denied.

The first period finished scoreless after Robert Morris could not capitalize on four first period power-plays. Ohio State's Chris Crane was sent off the ice at the 5:06 mark of the first period picking up a five-minute major for contact to the head and a game misconduct.

The Colonials opened scoring in the second period taking advantage of an Ohio State turnover. Ron Cramer (New Wilmington, Pa. / Indiana Ice) picked off a slow pass across the Buckeye blue line and headed the other way with Cody Crichton (Palgrave, Ontario / Brampton Capitals) on a two-on-none. Cramer passed ahead to Crichton, who found the net with a solid back hand to give the Colonials the lead. Zach Hervato (Stittsville, Ontario / Smiths Falls Bears) made it 2-0 with a hard shot from the just inside the Ohio State blue line that slipped through the pads of Cal Heeter.

Ohio State battled back to even the score at two with second period goals from Sergio Somma and Alex Lippincott. Ohio State got the best of the shots in the second period with 13 to nine for Robert Morris.

After an even skate for the first five minute of the first period, Lyle got called for interference and it look like the Buckeyes would have a solid scoring chance. However, the Colonials stole a neutral ice pass by the Buckeyes and turned it into a two-on-one. Chris Kushneriuk (Ottawa, Ontario / Orleans Blues) fired on net and Heeter made the save, but could not control the rebound, Cramer was there to knock in to make it 3-2.

The Buckeyes evened the score at three at the 10:30 mark of the third period with a power-play goal that slipped through the pads of Brooks Ostergard (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Bay State Breakers), who made 28 saves on the night for the Colonials. Lyle's score proved to be the game-winner despite a solid flurry by the Buckeyes at the end of regulation.

Robert Morris returns to action Sunday as they host Air Force inside the CONSOL Energy Center as part of the RMU Hockey Showcase, faceoff is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
