RMU Places 26th at Penn State National Invitational

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's cross country team continued its 2010 campaign Saturday, Oct. 16, by placing 26th out of 31 teams at the Penn State National Invitational in University Park, Pa.

The Colonials finished with 726 points to take home 26th place. Villanova won the invite with 26 points, followed by Syracuse (57), Penn State (137), Miami (Ohio) (155) and Grand Valley State (166). RMU finished ahead of Indiana (Pa.) (762), Pittsburgh (796), Rider (809), Temple (870) and Detroit Mercy (906).

For the second time in as many meets freshman Merel Van Steenbergen (Boskoop, the Netherlands / Coenecopp College Waddinxveen) paced the Colonials individually, placing 66th in the six-kilometer race with a time of 22:17.

Sophomore Kristie Domis (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) finished 143rd for Robert Morris with a time of 23:21, while junior Ashley Slifko (Carnegie, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) finished 166th by crossing the finish line with a time of 23:54.

Robert Morris now has two weeks off to prepare for the 2010 Northeast Conference Championships, which will take place Saturday, Oct. 30, in New Britain, Conn. Central Connecticut State will serve as host.
