No. 19 Robert Morris Wins in First Meeting with Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team scored three goals in the second period against Holy Cross Friday night to claim a, 4-2, win

Zach Hervato (Stittsville, Ontario / Smiths Falls Bears) scored ten seconds after Nathan Longpre (Peterborough, Ontario / Mahoning Valley Phantoms) in second period as Robert Morris tallied three second period goals to pick up a the win.

"I am very pleased with how we finished the game tonight," head men's ice hockey coach Derek Schooley said. "We controlled the tempo and the pace in the third period and push the offense without sacrificing the defense. We played a pretty complete hockey game tonight." 

After a slow first frame, the pace picked up in the second period with Chris Kushneriuk (Ottawa, Ontario / Orleans Blues) scoring on a power play. The Colonials captain earned his third goal of the season off a feed from Longpre Holy Cross evened the score 1:12 later with an even-strength goal from Matt Gordon. Robert Morris retook the lead in at the 8:26 mark with a goal from Longpre, who extended his point streak to four games. Adam Brace (Cobden, Ontario / Canisius College) earned the assist on the play. Following the goal from Longpre, the Colonials won the ensuing faceoff and Hervato made it a two goal game with his second tally of the season. Rob Linsmayer cut the lead to one with an even-strength tally with 3:02 left in the second period.

Robert Morris and Holy Cross played an even first period with the Colonials getting several solid chances on net. The Colonials earned the only power-play of the period but Holy Cross killed it off allowing only one solid scoring chance for RMU. Robert Morris outshot the Crusaders 10-5 in the opening frame.
