No. 20 Robert Morris Sweeps Alabama-Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team knocked off Alabama-Huntsville Saturday, 2-1, to pick up the weekend sweep and move its unbeaten streak to four.

Andrew Blazek (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Topeka Roadrunners) broke a 1-1 tie in the third period with his first goal of the season to send the Colonials (10-4-2, 7-4-2) to their third consecutive win. The sweep is the first for Robert Morris against the Chargers (2-14-2) in Huntsville since Feb. 20-21, 2009. The Colonials also tied the school record for road wins in a season Saturday with their seventh road win of the campaign.

"I was really pleased with the win tonight the Vonn Braun Center is a very tough place to play," head men's ice hockey coach Derek Schooley said. "We have only swept here one other time in the history of our program. Tonight we were able to use some different players and really showed the depth of our program."

The Colonials picked up the early lead as Denny Urban (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Ohio Blue Jackets) scored his sixth goal of the season. The Robert Morris goal came after the Chargers' Curtis DeBruyn picked up a five-minute major for hitting from behind.  The Colonials spent 7:09 of the first period on the power-play.

The Chargers' Matt Baxter tied the game in the second period with a power-play goal at the 9:05 mark of the frame. Blazek's goal broke the stalemate and sent the Colonials to the win. The Robert Morris penalty kill unit stepped up big again in the third period as the Colonials spent four of the final 10 minutes on the penalty kill.

Eric Levine (Wheeling, Ill. / Pembroke Lumber Kings) made his second start of the season and allowed just one goal stopping 30 of 31 shots. The sophomore made 27 stops in the final two periods including 15 in the third period. The Colonials went 1-of-6 on the power play and 2-of-3 on the penalty kill.

Robert Morris returns home next weekend to take on Colgate at the Island Sports Center Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
