No. 18 Robert Morris Sweeps Colgate

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team picked up its second consecutive sweep Sunday knocking off Colgate, 3-1.

Ron Cramer (New Wilmington, Pa. / Indiana Ice) scored with 2:16 left in the second period to complete another Robert Morris rally and send the Colonials (12-4-2, 7-4-2) to their fifth consecutive win. The victory against the Raiders (3-12-1, 0-5-1) also extends the Colonials unbeaten streak to six, a mark which stands first in the nation.

Colgate took lead at the 11:32 mark of the first period as Brian Day scored a power-play goal in the slot to give the Raiders the early advantage. Robert Morris answered the goal late in the first frame as Chris Kushneriuk (Ottawa, Ontario / Orleans Blues) scored back door on a Denny Urban (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Ohio Blue Jackets) rebound. The goal was the only blemish of the first period for goalie Brooks Ostergard (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Bay State Breakers) who made 15 first period stops and totaled 40 for the game.

The two teams played even through most of the second period but Cramer broke through late in the period scoring off an Urban rebound that was not controlled by Colgate goalie Eric Mihalik. Both team had two extra man opportunities but neither could capitalize.

The Colonials put the game out of reach in the third period with an even-strength goal from Adam Brace (Cobden, Ontario / Canisius College). Nathan Longpre (Peterborough, Ontario / Mahoning Valley Phantoms) picked up the first assist to move his point-streak to a career long six games.

Robert Morris returns to action Dec. 30 inside CONSOL Energy Center against RIT, puck drop is set for 3:05 p.m. The game can be heard live at RMUColonials.com and on Pittsburgh Penguins HD radio.
