Sicinski Scores Four Goals to lead RMU Past Bucknell, 10-8

Moon Township, Pa.  - Feb. 28, 2010 - The Robert Morris University Colonials started out their home schedule on a good note, as they surpassed Bucknell in a 10-8 victory on Sunday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium. In the win, sophomore Courtney Sicinski (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West) led the contest with a quartet of goals.

Senior Ali Gibbons (Candia, N.H. / Manchester) and junior Ashley Trombetta (Sykesville, Md. / Century) each posted two goals and an assist for a three point performance, while senior Alana Beck (Carle Place, N.Y. / Old Dominion) chipped in two goals. Rookie Tara Southworth (Westminster, Md. / Westminster High) also had an exceptional performance as she provided three assists in the triumph to mark her first points as a Colonial. Trombetta and Beck each posted four ground balls apiece.

With the win the Colonials improve to 1-1, while the Bison fall to 1-3.

After over 10 minutes of play in the first half the Bison held a two goal lead after Michelle Milot and Paige Cobbs each captured free position goals at 4:34 and 10:40, respectively.

The Bison were unable to hold that lead for very long, as the Colonials went on a scoring rampage, collecting the next six goals. Gibbons started off the flow of RMU goals by scoring two back to back at the 12:12 and 13:05 marks, which tied the game. With 10:37 left in the contest Trombetta grabbed a feed from Southworth and stormed through the Bucknell defense to earn RMU's third goal and its first lead of the contest.

Before the end of the half Sicinski added two goals the Colonials' collection and Beck found the back of the net on an RMU free position shot to set the score at 6-2 in RMU's favor. Southworth tallied all three of her helpers in the first half.

Bucknell entered the second half a lot stronger and scored a goal within a minute of play. That goal was followed with two more Bison goals by Ryan Wenk and Julia Braun at 8:48 and 9:25 to close the gap within one at 6-5.

However, Sicinski went to work for the Colonials and beat Bison goalie Alyssa DeLorenz for her third goal of the contest off an assist from sophomore Colleen O'Donnell (Portland, Ore. / St. Mary's Academy). Robert Morris captured the next three goals as well, with two of them being earned from free position shots to gain their biggest lead of the contest at 10-5.

Bucknell scored three more times before the end of regulation, but the Colonials were able to secure the win at 10-8.

RMU goalie Erica Webb (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) finished the contest with 10 saves, while DeLorenze tallied 11 stops in the contest.

The Colonials head to Buffalo, New York on Saturday, March 6 to take on Canisius at 1:00 p.m.
