Colonials Open Outdoor Season at Wake Forest

Winston-Salem, NC - - The Robert Morris University women's track and field team opened the 2010 outdoor season as they traveled south to take part in the Wake Forest Open at Kenter Stadium over the past weekend.  The team placed well as a whole, and also had several notable finishes.

Sophomore Gabriella Rinehart (Norristown, Pa. / Norristown Area) led the way for the Colonials as she placed second in the hammer throw with a heave of 50.56 meters.

In the javelin event, Ashley Turici  (Zelienople, Pa. / Seneca Valley) finished in the fifth slot with her impressive throw of 40.16 meters.

Sophomore Ashley Slifko (Carnegie, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) put forth RMU's top individual running performance with an eighth-place finish in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 39:51.

Freshman Katrina Lamar (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro) and sophomore Lakeshia McCloud (Bath, N.Y. / Haverling) both competed in the triple jump and finished with strong results. McCloud earned a mark of 10.88 meters which was good enough for seventh place, while Lamar ended in 18th place with her jump of 10.45 meters.

Freshman Taylor Crawford (Woodbury, Pa. / Northern Bedford) had a solid outing as well as she captured 11th place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.24 in the finals.

The team will next compete Saturday, March 27 at  the Western Pa. Intercollegiate Championships in California, Pa.
