Colonials Earn 17th at Penn State National Invite

Moon Township, Pa. - In its final tune-up for the 2011 Northeast Conference Championships, the Robert Morris University men's cross country team finished 17th out of 21 schools at the Penn State National Invitational this past weekend in University Park, Pa.

The Colonials finished with 501 points and were the only NEC institution to take part in the invite.

Taking home the team title was host Penn State, which finished with 47 points. The Nittany Lions were followed by Grand Valley State (55), Duquesne (77), Lehigh (142) and Montana State (177). 

For the second straight meet the Colonials were paced by freshman Tip Worob (Denton, Md. / North Caroline), who crossed the finish line with a time of 28:29 in the 5.2 mile course. His time was good enough to earn 82nd individually. 

Each finishing with a time of 28:47 were seniors Brian Mitchell (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) and Arthur Leathers (Taneytown, Md. / Francis Scott Key). Mitchell earned 92nd place, followed by Leathers at 43rd.

Finishing 115th for RMU was senior Greg Opp (Somerset, Pa. / Somerset), who posted a final tally of 29:39.

Robert Morris returns to Holmdel, N.J., for the 2011 NEC Cross Country Championships for its next meet Saturday, Oct. 29. The Colonials ran the course in their first meet of the 2011 campaign as part of the Monmouth Invitational, finishing sixth out of 12 schools.
