Moon Township, Pa. - In its final tune-up for the 2011 Northeast Conference Championships, the Robert Morris University women's cross country team finished 22nd out of 27 schools at the Penn State National Invitational this past weekend in University Park, Pa.
The Colonials finished with 592 points and were the only NEC institution to take part in the invite. Taking home the team title was West Virginia, which recorded 45 points. Following the Mountaineers in the top five were Connecticut (70), Penn State (77), Duke (91) and Grand Valley State (171).
For the fourth straight meet RMU was led by freshman Michelle Schiewe (Swidnica, Poland / Czestochowska Second Liceurn), who posted a time of 23:14 in the 6,000-meter course. The time was good enough to finish 70th overall individually.
A total of 268 harriers took part in the Penn State National Invitational, with freshman Marissa Polk (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Oakland Catholic) finishing 122nd for Robert Morris thanks to a time of 24:16.
Also earning top 150 finishes for the Colonials were junior Kristie Domis (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin), sophomore Lindsay Erath (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell) and sophomore Maegan Lewis (New Milford, Pa. / Blue Ridge).
Domis posted a time of 24:18 to earn 124th place, while Erath finished with a mark of 24:33 to earn 134th. Lewis crossed the finish line in 24:46 to post 142nd place.
Robert Morris returns to Holmdel, N.J., for the 2011 NEC Cross Country Championships for its next meet Saturday, Oct. 29. The Colonials ran the course in their first meet of the 2011 campaign as part of the Monmouth Invitational, finishing sixth out of 12 schools.
