Holmdel, N.J. - The Robert Morris University women's cross country team finished sixth at the 2011 Northeast Conference Cross Country Championships at Holmdel Park Saturday afternoon by compiling a team score of 147.

For the seventh straight year, Quinnipiac won the team championship, recording 44 points. Sacred Heart (75), Monmouth (91), Central Connecticut State (99) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (107) rounded out the top five.

For the second straight year, a student-athlete from RMU claimed NEC Freshman of the Year accolades, as Marissa Polk (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Oakland Catholic) took home the 2011 honor. Polk is the third Colonial to win the award overall, joining former Colonials Erika Suhy (2000) and Merel Van Steenbergen (2010).

Polk was the first freshman to cross the finish line and 17th overall at the 2011 NEC Championships, recording a time of 19:44.30 in the five-kilometer run.

Also earning a top 25 performance for Robert Morris was junior Kristie Domis (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin), who claimed 21st with a time of 19:49.00. Following Domis for the Colonials was sophomore Lindsay Erath (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell), who finished 29th at 20:03.10.

Claiming the individual championship at the 2011 NEC Cross Country Championships was Alasia Griebel of Central Connecticut State, who finished with a time of 18:42.10.

Also scoring for Robert Morris were freshman Brianna Iannarelli (McDonald, Pa. / Canon-MacMillan) and sophomore Maegan Lewis (New Milford, Pa. / Blue Ridge). Iannarelli finished at 20:29.60 to earn 44th, while Lewis claimed 46th with a time of 20:35.60.

The Colonials now gear up for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals, which take place Saturday, Nov. 12, in Princess Anne, Md.
