Colonials Place 20th at NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's cross country team continued its 2011 campaign Saturday by taking part in the 2011 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, hosted by Maryland-Eastern Shore, in Princess Anne, Md.

The Colonials finished 20th out of 29 teams overall, compiling 568 points. RMU finished ahead of Lafayette (580), Temple (654), Saint Francis (Pa.) (682), Marshall (704), UMBC (716), Pittsburgh (730), Seton Hall (736), the host Hawks (840) and NJIT (858).

Taking home the team title was Villanova, which finished with a team score of 57. Rounding out the top five were West Virginia (64), Penn State (90), Princeton (124) and La Salle (193).

Freshman Michelle Schiewe (Swidinica, Poland / Czestochowska Second Liceurn) posted the top time for the Colonials, finishing 62nd individually by navigating the six-kilometer course in a time of 23:36.0.

Freshman Marissa Polk (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Oakland Catholic) earned 117th place for RMU, crossing the finish line in 24:39.6, while junior Kristie Domis (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) finished 125th with a time of 24:48.6.

Rounding out the scorers for Robert Morris were sophomore Lindsay Erath (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell) and senior Deb Ostrander (Denton, Md. / North Caroline).

Erath notched the 130th spot with a time of 24:54.5, while Denton finished the course in 25:11.7, good enough for 143rd.

RMU is next in action Saturday, Nov. 19, at the IC4A/ECAC Championships in New York, N.Y.
