BRIDGEPORT, Conn.  –The Robert Morris men's hockey team set a new program record with 29 points in a game on Saturday afternoon, topping Sacred Heart 10-4 to earn the Colonials' first sweep of the season. Saturday's 10 goals by Robert Morris ties the program's previous mark, set on Jan. 4, 2008 against American International in a 10-2 RMU win.
17 Colonials tallied points in Saturday's win including freshman forward Cody Cartier (Sylvan Lake, Alberta / Canmore Eagles), senior forward Trevor Lewis (Lititz, Pa. / Syracuse Stars) and sophomore defenseman Jimmy Geerin (Anchorage, Alaska / Burnaby Express, who notched three points each on Saturday.Â
Robert Morris (7-6-1 overall, 5-2-1 Atlantic Hockey) twice rallied from first period deficits before notching five goals in the third period to remain unbeaten in its last five games and complete the four-point weekend – giving the Colonials their first road sweep in nearly a year (Alabama-Huntsville, 12/10-11/10).
Freshman forward Scott Jacklin (Kimberley, British Columbia / Trail Smoke Eaters) tallied a pair of goals on Saturday – tying Chris Margott's program record of five-consecutive games with a goal, set in 2007-08. Jacklin, who now leads the Colonials with six goals this season, was one of four RMU skaters to extend their point streaks to five games along with senior forward Cody Crichton (Palgrave, Ontario / Brampton Capitals), senior forward Nick Chiavetta (Harrisburg, Pa. / New York Applecore) and freshman forward Cody Wydo (Allen Park, Mich. / Motor City Metal Heads). Crichton and Wydo would each tally two points in the win, with a two assists and a goal and an assist, respectively, while Chiavetta would add an assist of his own against the Pioneers.
Lewis' assist and two goals ended a five-game scoring drought for the senior while junior forward Adam Brace (Cobden, Ontario / Canisius) would also contribute a goal and an assist on Saturday.
The Colonials, whose 47 shots tied for the fifth most in program history, would tally the eventual game winner off the stick of Geerin. Geerin notched his first career goal at 12:16 of the second period before adding a pair of assists in the third period. Fellow blue liner Tyson Wilson (Brockville, Ontario / Brockville Braves)  and freshman forward Jeff Jones (Revelstoke, British Columbia / Merritt Centennials) would each add a pair of assists for the Colonials while senior forward Tom Brooks (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Louis Bandits would tally a goal and an assist. Robert Morris would outshoot the Pioneers 47-45 in the win.
Behind the explosive offense, the RMU defense and special teams continued to keep its opponents in check. Junior goaltender Eric Levine improved to 4-2-0 on the season after making 41 saves while the Colonial penalty kill again blanked its opponent on four opportunities.
Robert Morris returns to action next weekend with a pair of games at the RMU Island Sports Center. Clearview Arena will host the two-game weekend as Niagara comes to town on Friday at 7:05 p.m. before the Colonials host Canisius on Sunday at 5:05 p.m.
