COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team fell on the road to Air Force Friday, 4-2, at the Cadet Ice Rink.
The Colonials (18-10-5, 13-8-5) fell behind early to the Falcons (15-11-6, 12-8-6) and could not rally against Air Force, who has won three consecutive games. Robert Morris heads into the final game of the regular season needing a win to earn a bye in through the first round of the Atlantic Hockey Championship Tournament. Furman South (Sewickley, Pa. / Bay State Breakers) scored late in the third period to cut the Air Force lead to one but it was not enough to rally the Colonials.
Air Force took the early lead with an even-strength goal from Jacques Lamoureux at the 5:24 mark of the first frame. The Falcons extended the lead to two at 13:45 of the first period with a goal by Adam McKenzie. Robert Morris entered the intermission down two after surrendering two first period goal to Air Force the second consecutive game, while Brooks Ostergard (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Bay State Breakers) stopped eight of the 10 shots he faced.
Robert Morris came out of the gates quickly in the second period as Ron Cramer (New Wilmington, Pa. / Indiana Ice) scored nine seconds into the period to cut the Air Force lead to 2-1. George Michalke pushed the Air Force advantage back to two with a goal at the 7:29 mark of the second stanza.
South cut the lead to one at the 16:17 mark of the third period with Brandon Blandina (Centennial, Colo. / Indiana Ice) picking up the assist. Robert Morris pulled Ostergard looking for the game-tying goal but it was Air Force who found the net. Paul Weisgarber scored on the empty net with 1:12 left in the game. Following the goal, in the final minute of the game six different penalties were handed out.
The Colonials failed to score a power-play goal for the second time in the last six games going 0-for-3. Robert Morris posted a 3-for-3 mark on the penalty kill and the Colonials have now killed off 27 of the last 29 opposing team's power plays.
The Colonials and the Falcons returns to action tomorrow at 7:35 p.m. MST at the Cadet Ice Rink.

- Robert Morris has not won a conference road game in regulation time since Nov. 5.
