Robert Morris Falls in NEC Semifinal to Mount St. Mary?s

HAMDEN, Ct. - The Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team ended its season Friday with a, 13-8, loss to Mount St. Mary's in the Northeast Conference Tournament Semifinal in Hamden Ct. on the campus of Quinnipiac University.  

The Colonials (8-9, 7-2) fell in the programs first ever conference tournament game to the Mountaineers as they scored seven of the final nine goals of the game to earn the win. Robert Morris fell into an early three goal hole but rallied and tied the game at six until Mount St. Mary's shook lose. Elizabeth Sunseri (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) led the Colonials offensively with three goals while also causing four turnovers.

The Mountaineers ran out to a quick four goal lead at the 21:40 mark getting four goals from four different players. Emily VanDyne (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Thomas) got Robert Morris on the board with a goal at the 18:21 mark off an assist from Kaleigh Gibbons (Candia, N.H. / Manchester Central). The Colonial got a good bounce at the 12:44 of the first half as Rachel Engel (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Upper St. Clair) scored off a deflection by the Mount St. Mary's goalie Brigid McTavish.

The Mount pushed its lead back to three when Kailyn Larrimore scored at the 10:12 mark of the first half. The Colonial responded with final two goal of the half including one from Ashley Trombetta (Sykesville, Md. / Century) with 42 second left in half to trail 5-4 at the intermission.

Sunseri tied the game at five, three minutes into the second half off an assist from Colleen O'Donnell (Portland, Ore. / St. Mary's Academy). Alexis Salerno put The Mount back in front at the 26:05 mark. Robert Morris responded to tie the game at six at the 24:37 mark as Engel found the net off of an assist from O'Donnell.

Mount St. Mary's then shook loose and scored seven of the final nine goals of the game including getting four in the final 20:30 of the game. Sunseri completed her hat trick at the 17:06 mark of the second stanza but it was not enough to rally the Colonials.    

Kaitlin Pentz (Sykesville, Md. / Century) posted a solid game in net posting nine saves including five in the second half but it was enough to stop Mount St. Mary's. The Colonials struggled on the free-position shots going 0-for-3 while the Mountaineers went 2-for-7.
