RMU Student-Athlete of the Week (8/24/11)

The newest edition of the RMU Student-Athlete of the Week kickoffs the 2011-12 academic year with a special pair of RMU female's to earn the weekly honor. Senior forward Ayana Davis of the soccer team earns one of the distinctions, and she is joined by fellow senior teammate Jessica Olin. Davis, a native of Mt. Laurel, N.J., and a sport management major, helped lead the Colonials to just their third 2-0 start in program history and first since 2008 last weekend at the 5th Annual Embassy Suites Kick-Off Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., which was hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University. Davis scored the lone goal in RMU's 1-0 win over Big East foe Syracuse (8/19) in the 2011 season opener, then added an insurance goal as the Colonials marched to a 3-1 victory over Eastern Washington (8/21) two days later. The performance earned Davis MVP honors of the tournament, a spot on the 2011 Embassy Suites All-Tournament Team and the first adidas/Northeast Conference Player of the Week accolade of the 2011 campaign.
