Edinboro, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's indoor track & field team continued its 2011-12 campaign this past weekend by competing in the Al Hall Freedom Games on the campus of Edinboro University.
A quartet of Colonials took home first place finishes in the meet. Junior Justene Delaman (Bellaire, Ohio / Saint John's) took home the gold in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.51 seconds. Freshman Aubree Ray (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown) finished first in the shot put thanks to a throw of 12.16 meters. Sophomore Devon Peace (Westons Mills, Pa. / Protville Central) claimed first-place honors in the triple jump due to a leap of 10.63 meters while senior Debra Ostrander (Denton, Md. / North Caroline) came out on top in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.50.
Peace also placed seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.53 seconds. In other track events, senior Hilary Monger (Reading, Pa. / Holy Name) finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.20 while junior teammate Sarah Lueck (Monrovia, Md. / Urbana) finished fifth with a time of 9.75. In the 400-meter dash, freshman Tara Van Schie (Haarlem, Netherlands / Driehuis NH) and sophomore Alexa Sarsfield (Springdale, Pa. / Springdale) finished with consecutive third and fourth-place finishes as they were separated by just .33 seconds.
In the field events, the Colonials notched 10 top-10 finishes. In the weight throw, junior Megan Green (Bellaire, Ohio / Bellaire) finished third with a throw of 13.30 meters while sophomore Mekia Kauffman (Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern York) and Ray finished sixth and ninth, respectively.
In the pole vault event, Lueck and junior Casey Folga (Erie, Pa. / Harborcreek) tied for third with leaps of 3.20 meters.
In the long jump, Van Schie finished third behind two jumpers from Edinboro by posting a jump of 5.17 meters. In the shot put, Green finished second behind Ray with a hurl of 11.60 meters. In the triple jump, sophomore Nikki Pardini (West Pittston, Pa. / Wyoming Area) finished behind Pease with a leap of 10.44 meters.
The RMU women's track & field team continues its 2011-12 season next Friday, Jan. 27, by competing in the Penn State National Open and the Youngstown State Scored Meet.
