Colonials Open New Year at Penn State Relays

University Park, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's track & field team returned to action after the holiday break by taking part in the Penn State Relays at Ashenfelter III Indoor Track this past Saturday.

Sophomore Yulia Vasilyeva (Volgograd, Russia) highlighted the meet for the Colonials, posting leap of 1.70 meters (5'7") in the high jump to qualify for the IC4A/ECAC Championships. The mark was also good enough to tie for first in the event with Sarah Palmer of Penn State.

Vasilyeva also finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.25 meters (36'11"), trailing only Marlene Ricketts (12.04 meters) of Penn State and Ashley Corum (11.79 meters) and Julia Kosloski (11.31 meters) from the University of Pittsburgh.

In the pole vault, junior Casey Folga (Erie, Pa. / Harborcreek) earned bronze with a jump of 3.35 meters (10'11.75"), while freshman Bethany Ledford (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon) finished fourth in the same event with a leap of 3.20 meters (10'6").

Senior Lakeshia McCloud (Bath, N.Y. / Haverling) also posted a solid meet at Penn State, earning sixth place in the long jump (5.28 meters) and seventh in the triple jump (11.19 meters).

In the track events, junior Kristie Domis (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) finished fifth in the mile run with a time of 5:27.45, while freshman Alexis Ebersole (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) crossed the finish line with a time of 3:18.02 in the 1,000-meter run to finish seventh.

Robert Morris continues its 2011-12 indoor campaign Friday, Jan. 13, by taking part in the Akron Opener in Akron, Ohio.
