Niagara University, N.Y. - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team fell in Atlantic
Hockey action to the Niagara Purple Eagles 3-0 on Saturday evening.
After
producing fast starts recently, the Colonials would allow Niagara to pick up
the first goal of the game less than two minutes into the first period. The Purple Eagles would double their lead on
the power-play with 2:01 remaining in the period.
A scoreless
second period saw the Colonials take thirteen shots on goal, none of which
would find their way past the Niagara goaltender. RMU would go 0-3 on the power play in the
period and held the Purple Eagles scoreless on their three power-play attempts
in the second.
The Purple
Eagles would add a third goal to their advantage as they found the net at 7:21
of the third period. Robert Morris would
get seventeen shots on goal in the period but were still unable to solve the
goaltending of Niagara.
The
Colonials would get 43 shots on goal in the game as sophomore Cody Wydo
(Southgate, Mich. / Motor City Metal Jackets) put six shots on net. Making his third consecutive start, freshman
goaltender Terry Shafer (Penfield, N.Y. / New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs) would
stop 28 of the 31 shots he faced.
Robert
Morris returns to action after a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday as they
travel to Holy Cross for a pair of games that start on Friday, Nov. 30 with a
7:05 p.m. faceoff. The second game will
be played on Dec. 1 when the two teams will face off at 3:00 p.m.
