Colonials Open Indoor Season at YSU Icebreaker

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's indoor track & field team opened its 2012-13 campaign Saturday afternoon by taking part in the YSU Icebreaker on the campus of Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio.

In the high jump, junior Yulia Vasilyeva (Volgograd, Russia) took home silver thanks to a leap of 1.68 meters (5'6").

Vasilyeva tied Ashley West of Slippery Rock for the top mark, but West cleared 5'6" on her first attempt to take home the individual title. Vasilyeva, who owns the indoor school record in the event, now owns each of the top three marks in school history in the high jump.

Vasilyeva also posted the top mark for Robert Morris in the triple jump, posting a leap of 11.20 meters (36'9") to place fifth.

In the throws, junior Rachael Kotula (East Berlin, Pa. / Bermudian Springs) placed fifth in the weight throw thanks to a toss of 13.61 meters (44'8"), while senior Megan Green (Bellaire, Ohio / Bellaire) placed seventh in the same event at 13.10 meters (42'11.75").

Green also took home the top mark for the Colonials in the shot put thanks to a throw of 13.05 meters (42'9.75"), which was good enough to earn fifth place.

In the track events, RMU was led by senior Kristie Domis (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin), who placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run thanks to a time of 19:41.06. 

Robert Morris returns to action with the Kent State Golden Flash Gala, which takes place Friday, Dec. 7, and Saturday, Dec. 8, on the campus of Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.
