Cramer?s Overtime Goal Caps 2-1 Thriller

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Feb. 24, 2012Ron Cramer's second goal of the season couldn't have come at a better time as the senior forward scored just under two minutes into overtime on Friday, giving the Robert Morris men's hockey team a 2-1 overtime win over league-leading Air Force and keeping the Colonials' hopes for a first-round bye in next week's Atlantic Hockey playoffs alive.

“That was a gutty two points for our guys tonight,” RMU head coach Derek Schooley said after the game. “We knew what we had to do, and we got it done. That's the way we've got to play all the time, and that's definitely the way we need to play tomorrow.”

After scoring his first goal of the year last weekend, Cramer (New Wilmington, Pa. / Indiana Ice) tallied once again just 1:59 into the added session when he picked up his own rebound and roofed his second attempt over Jason Torf in net for the Falcons. Senior forward Brandon Blandina (Centennial, Colo. / Indiana Ice) caused the original turnover on the play and earned his eighth point of the year with the assist.

Fittingly, it was a pair of seniors who completed the win for Robert Morris (15-13-5 overall, 12-8-5 Atlantic Hockey) on senior weekend. Tonight's win gave the RMU senior class 53 career wins – tying the 10-member group for the program record for wins by a class. The Colonials will celebrate senior night on Saturday night.

After a scoreless first period, junior forward Adam Brace (Cobden, Ontario / Canisius) put the Colonials up 1-0 at 8:32 of the second period with a power-play goal on RMU's first of only two advantages for the night. Freshman defenseman Tyson Wilson (Brockville, Ontario / Brockville Braves) and freshman forward Cody Cartier (Sylvan Lake, Alberta / Canmore Eagles) earned assists on the play. Air Force (16-9-7, 14-6-6) earned the equalizer two minutes later off the stick of Cole Gunner.

Senior goaltender Brooks Ostergard (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Bay State Breakers) earned the win for Robert Morris in a 23-save performance that moved the netminder to 9-9-4 on the season. Torf took the loss to move to 5-4-2 for the year in a 35-save night.

Robert Morris closes out the 2011-12 regular season on Saturday night against Air Force at Clearview Arena.

Colonial Notes: Cramer now sits alone at 10th on RMU's all-time points list at 59...tonight's win snaps a three-game losing streak to Air Force...RMU's penalty kill was successful in blanking the Falcons' only advantage of the night...Trevor Lewis set a new RMU career record with his 137th game and tied the Colonial record of consecutive appearances at 117 (Denny Urban).
