PITTSBURGH, Pa. / Mar. 14, 2012– Five different
Colonials tallied on Wednesday night as the Robert Morris women's lacrosse team
fell to cross-town rival Duquesne 12-6. MacKenzie Lawler led the Colonials with
two goals on the night.
After Duquesne jumped out to a two-goal lead early
in the first half, the Colonials responded with two goals of their own to even
the score – all in the game's first 20 minutes. Senior Courtney Sicinski
(Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West) opened the night for RMU with her eighth
goal of the year with 25:56 left in the first half after being set up by
freshman Jessica Rutherford (Pylesville, Md. / North Harford). Freshman Kristin Yoviene (Easton, Md. / Saints Peter and Paul) would net her ninth goal of the
year for the equalizer with 22:16 remaining.
The Colonials (1-6 overall, 0-0 NEC) would net a
third unanswered goal less than three minutes later at 19:43 when sophomore
Emily VanDyne (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Thomas) tallied her second goal of the season
to put RMU up 3-2.
But the lead would not last. Duquesne (4-3, 0-0
Atlantic 10) would score four-straight goals to reclaim the lead before
sophomore Talia Waskowicz (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) ended the Dukes'
run with her 10th goal of the year at 27:01 of the second half. Lawler (Okemos, Mich.
/ Okemos) would add a pair of second-half goals (22:44, 8:30) to give the
Colonials six on the night, but the hosts would increase their goal total to 12
as regulation came to an end.
Sophomore Kaitlin Pentz (Sykesville, Md. / Century)
took the loss for Robert Morris with an eight-save performance. Liz Walker made
four saves to pick up the win for Duquesne. Haley Marafioti led the Dukes with
five points and three goals in the win.
