MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. / Mar. 17, 2012– The Robert Morris women's lacrosse team rallied from
five goals down in the final twelve minutes to force overtime before freshman
Erin Mossop (Schenectady, N.Y. / Guilderland) scored the only goal in the extra
frame to lead the Colonials to their second victory of the season. The 13-12 victory this afternoon snapped a
six-game losing streak for the Colonials.
Robert Morris (2-6, 0-0 NEC) never led in the game
until overtime as the Davidson (3-5, 0-0 NLC) held leads of two, three, and
five goals against RMU throughout the game.
Sophomores Talia Waskowicz (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) and
MacKenzie Lawler (Okemos, Mich. / Okemos) brought the Colonials back from a
12-7 deficit in the second half with the duo scoring five goals that brought
the game to a tie at the end of regulation.
The Colonials fell behind early as Davidson
registered the first two goals only eighteen seconds apart with twenty minutes
remaining in the first half. Senior
Courtney Sicinski (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West) got the RMU on the board
a minute later. Davidson would add a
third goal before Mossop would score her first of two goals in the game. Lawler would follow up that goal with her
first of three on the day to tie the game at three with ten minutes remaining
in the half. The Wildcats would respond
with the next three goals to double their total to six before Waskowicz scored
her first of five goals in the contest with five minutes remaining. Davidson would add a seventh goal in the half
before RMU's Kristin Yoviene (Easton, Md. / Saints Peter and Paul) ended the
first-half scoring with the Colonials' fifth goal.
Robert Morris would pull even with the Wildcats as
they tallied the first two goals of the second half. Senior Colleen O'Donnell (Portland, Ore. /
St. Mary's Academy) scored thirty seconds in and Waskowicz netted her second of
the game just two minutes later. Robert
Morris would not control the lead for the time being as Davidson rattled off
the next five goals over a four minute stretch.
Coming out of a timeout, the Colonials started their own run of five-straight
goals as Waskowicz netted her second hat trick of the season. Lawler would add the next two goals for
Robert Morris as she joined her fellow sophomore in recording a hat trick in
today's contest. Waskowicz would match
Lawler's two goals with two of her own to bring her total for the game to five with
the game-tying goal with 1:06 remaining in regulation. The only scoring in overtime would come from
the stick of Mossop as she tallied her second of the game.
Sophomore goaltender Kaitlin Pentz (Sykesville, Md.
/ Century) made eleven saves in the contest to pick up her second win of the
season. Her counterpart, Pittsburgh
native Jessica Melby, also recorded eleven saves while picking up the loss for
Davidson. The Colonials held the edge in
shots, ground balls, caused turnovers, draw controls, and clears over the
Wildcats in the game. O'Donnell led
Robert Morris with four ground balls, three caused turnovers, and six draw
controls in the contest.
The Colonials return to action as they open up NEC
play with a two-game road trip facing Mount St. Mary's this upcoming Friday
before continuing their travels to Monmouth next Sunday. The squad returns home on March 31 to host
St. Francis (PA) at Joe Walton Stadium with a 1:00 p.m. faceoff.
