SMITHFIELD, R.I. / April 15, 2012 – The Robert
Morris women's lacrosse team stormed to a three-goal lead in the first eight
minutes of play and never looked back on Sunday afternoon, taking down Bryant
9-6 to snap RMU's three-game winless streak.
Robert Morris (5-10 overall, 3-4 NEC) never trailed
in the team's regular season road finale as Talia Waskowicz (Pittsburgh, Pa. /
North Allegheny), Courtney Sicinski (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West) and
Colleen O'Donnell (Portland, Ore. / St. Mary's Academy) each found the net in
the opening minutes of action to put the Colonials up 3-0 before the Bulldogs
could even put a shot on net.
Bryant (5-9, 4-3) would eventually find the net at
the 11:50 mark of the period, but Sicinski would send the Colonials into
halftime up 4-1 after scoring her second of the day with 0:02 left in the half.
Waskowicz and MacKenzie Lawler (Okemos, Mich. /
Okemos) would push the lead to 6-1 with goals at 29:39 and 26:43 of the second
half, respectively, before the Bulldogs would attempt a rally in the game's
final 25 minutes. The comeback wouldn't hold however as Kristin Yoviene
(Easton, Md. / Saints Peter and Paul) picked up the eventual game winner with a
free-position shot at 21:44 and Erin Mossop (Schenectady, N.Y. / Guilderland)
would add a pair of insurance goals to pave way for an RMU win.
Waskowicz would pace Robert Morris in the win with
three points after adding an assist on Lawler's second-half goal. O'Donnell posted
a team-high five ground balls while Haley Schemm (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel
Park) had a game-high four caused turnovers. Lisa Vendel led Bryant with three
goals and a game-high six ground balls.
Kaitlin Pentz (Sykesville, Md. / Century) picked up
the six-save win to improve to 5-10 for the year.
Robert Morris closes out the regular season next
weekend at home against Wagner (Friday) and LIU Brookleyn (Sunday). Both games
are slated for 1 p.m. start times at Joe Walton Stadium.
