It was a fitting end for the most successful class in Robert Morris history. The 2011-12 seniors leave the program with a class-record 53 career wins including the program's 100th overall victory earlier this year. The Colonials also celebrated one of the most successful seasons in team history, highlighted by the nation's best penalty killing unit (.899 percent success rate) and a program record eight-game unbeaten streak. The Colonials, whose 17-17-5 overall record was one win away from tying the program's season win record, also picked up their first-ever Atlantic Hockey Association playoff win, their first-ever home playoff win and came out on top in the program's first-ever playoff series.

"Any time you have the achievements that we hit this year, it's a great feeling and a great sign for the direction of this program," Colonials Head Coach Derek Schooley said. "I'm very proud of our team and our individual award winners. Every guy contributed in one way or another, and that's the attitude we like to see."

Ostergard (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Bay State Breakers) was named the team's Most Valuable Player as well as the Defensive Player of the Year after setting a single-season program record with a .928 save percentage -- a figure that ranked 11th in the nation this year. Ostergard closed out his collegiate career as RMU's all-time leader in goals against average at 2.73 and ranks first among four-year letter winners with a .917 save percentage. The senior was a two-time league Goalie of the Week as well as the AHA's Goalie of the Month in December.

The team's Offensive Player of the Year Award was given to senior forward Trevor Lewis (Lititz, Pa. / Syracuse Stars), who finished tied for the team lead with 29 points (eight goals, 21 assists) in 2011-12 including eight points in RMU's first-round playoff series with AIC. Lewis finished his career as one of the best players to ever lace up a pair of skates at Robert Morris - ranking fourth in career assists with 53, fifth in career points with 83 and fifth in goals with 30. The team's captain in 2011-12, Lewis also is the all-time leader in games played at Robert Morris with 143 career appearances including 123 straight games to close out his career - another program record.

Newcomer Tyson Wilson (Brockville, Ontario / Brockville Braves) was honored as the team's Freshman of the Year after leading all Colonial defensemen with 17 points. Wilson, who finished third on the team in assists with 14), earned Atlantic Hockey All-Rookie honors in his first campaign with the program.

Senior forward Nick Chiavetta (Harrisburg, Pa. / New York Applecore) had a memorable final season with the Colonials and was honored as both the Most Improved Player and Most Inspirational Player for Robert Morris this season. Chiavetta's 22 points, 10 goals and 12 assists were all career-highs for the forward - more than doubling his career point total to 42 overall (19 goals, 23 assists). Furthermore, the senior was honored by the AHA with the league's Best Defensive Forward Award.

Finally, senior forward Furman South (Sewickley, Pa. / Bay State Breakers) picked up his second-straight Student-Athlete of the Year Award after posting a 3.79 cumulative grade point average to close out his college career. The program's first-ever nominee for the BNY Mellon Wealth Management Hockey Humanitarian Award in 2011-12, South had seven points and six assists in 38 games this year.
