Gilbert, who competes with the Minnesota Swarm and was named All-Pro Second Team, suited up for both the lacrosse and hockey teams during his time at RMU.

"I don't think Jeff gets enough accolades for what he does," Swarm head coach and associate general manager Joe Sullivan said in a team release. "He's such an integral part of what we're all about, and his leadership and experience along with the way he lends himself to other players to make them better and compete harder every game is second to none. I've been around a lot of great players, and Jeff is right up there with the best of them."

Gilbert was one of just three defensemen in the entire league to be recognized as All-Pro after he helped lead the Swarm to the franchise's first-ever playoff victory as Minnesota fell a win shy of a berth in the Champion's Cup.

During the regular season, Gilbert finished second in the NLL with 26 forced turnovers and was also third on the team with 66 loose balls in 16 games. He finished with a career-high 12 points, including tallying a pair of shorthanded goals in a 15-7 victory at Washington Feb. 24. Gilbert also posted a game-high 12 loose balls along with three forced turnovers and an assist on the game's opening goal in Minnesota's inaugural playoff win--a 14-10 victory at Colorado.

Gilbert, a native of Barrie, Ontario, just completed his fourth year in the NLL but his first with the Swarm after being traded from the Toronto Rock during the past offseason. He has played in 69 career games, including eight postseason contests, and has tallied over 30 points and more than 300 loose balls in his career. He also was a member of the 2011 Toronto squad that won the NLL Champion's Cup.

The All-Pro awards are voted on by the league's board of governors, general managers and head coaches.

Gilbert has the unique distinction of competing for both Robert Morris' first-ever men's lacrosse team and the initial men's hockey squad in Colonial history. He netted the game-winning goal in the hockey team's first-ever Division I contest--a 3-1 victory over Canisius--before taking the field for lacrosse fewer than six months later.

Gilbert was also far from the only former Colonial on the Swarm's roster in 2012. Corbyn Tao-Brambleby and Andrew Watt, both former RMU student-athletes, were integral pieces for Minnesota. Tao-Brambleby notched 43 points (21g, 22a) and 67 loose balls while playing in all 18 games in his rookie season while Watt, a 2011 All Star, notched 11 points, including eight goals, along with 61 loose balls while competing in every game as a transition player.

This Minnesota trio was complemented by another former Colonial, Jordon Sealock, a defenseman for the Philadelphia Wings. Sealock competed in 13 games for Philadelphia in 2012, collecting 18 loose balls, three forced turnovers and a pair of points.

Despite being a relatively new program on the Division I scene, RMU has had seven distinct student-athletes drafted by NLL teams in program history. In this past offseason's NLL Draft, three Colonials were taken within the first four rounds, which tied Robert Morris with Syracuse University for the most selections from one NCAA school within the first four rounds of the 2011 Draft. RMU was also the lone Northeast Conference (NEC) school to have even one individual selected in the 2011 NLL Draft.

The RMU men's lacrosse team registered a program-record 11 wins in 2012, including running through NEC play undefeated to claim the conference's regular-season title. The Colonials knocked off a pair of nationally-ranked squads during the campaign and are currently leading the nation in scoring offense at 14.33 goals per game.
