Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – October 25, 2013 - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team put its undefeated record in Columbus on the line with a Friday evening contest against Ohio State.  After jumping out to a 2-0 lead just three minutes into the game, the Colonials would allow the Buckeyes to respond with five unanswered goals before RMU suffered its third loss of the season, 5-3.

Following up a tie in their most recent outing that saw Robert Morris (0-3-1, 0-0-1 AHA) net a pair of power-play goals, the Colonials would again net a pair of goals with the man advantage in the loss to Ohio State (1-3-0, 0-0-0 Big Ten).  RMU jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 2:51 into the first period with goals from Greg Gibson (Burlington, Ontario / Amarillo Bulls) and Cody Wydo (Southgate, Mich. / Motor City Metal Jackets) that would chase Collin Olson, the Ohio State starting goaltender.

MIH - John Rey
Just 50 seconds after the opening faceoff, Gibson would pick up his first goal of the season off of a feed from Colin South (Sewickley, Pa. / Bay State Breakers).  Two minutes later, Wydo would collect his third goal of the season on Robert Morris' first power play of the evening as the Colonials would hold a 2-0 lead.  Wydo would deposit a feed from John Rey (Turnersville, N.J. / Amarillo Bulls) as the goal forced the Buckeyes to replace Olson with Matt Tomkins after Olson saw just three shots, two of which went for Colonial goals.

The goaltending switch for Ohio State stalled RMU's momentum as the Buckeyes countered with a pair of goals before the conclusion of the opening frame.  Matt Johnson would get Ohio State on the board at the 8:43 mark of the period as he beat RMU starter Terry Shafer (Penfield, N.Y. / New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs).  Darik Angeli then tied the game, 2-2, with a power-play marker in the final minute of the first period.

Less than three minutes into the second period, the Buckeyes would claim the lead, 3-2, with the first of two goals by Nick Oddo.  Ohio State's lead would increase three minutes later with the Buckeyes' second power-play goal of the game; this one recorded by Anthony Greco.  Ohio State would collect a third goal in the second period as Oddo made the score 5-2 with his second goal of the period.

Robert Morris would make a goaltending change of its own to start the third period as Brandon Lane (Oakville, Ontario / Kanata Stallions) made his collegiate debut in relief of Shafer.  The Colonials would net the only goal of the final frame when Chase Golightly (Temecula, Calif. / Prince George Spruce Kings) recorded his first goal of the season and the second power-play goal for RMU.  Assisting on Golightly's goal were South and Zac Lynch (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bay State Breakers).

Lane recorded 16 saves while between the pipes for the third period; Shafer finished the evening with 20 saves.  South recorded his fifth career multi-assist game with helpers on two of the three Colonial goals.  Robert Morris would be outshot in the contest, 41-30, despite the defense recording more blocked shots, 15-11.  Evan Renwick (Calgary, Alberta / Canmore Eagles) led the Colonials with five blocked shots against the Buckeyes.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow evening as Robert Morris hosts Ohio State at the 84 Lumber Arena for a 7:05 start.  Last time these two teams met on RMU's home ice, the delighted a record sellout crowd of 1,589 with a 2-2 tie that included the Colonials winning an exhibition shootout.
