Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University women's cross country team earned fourth at the 2013 Northeast Conference Championships Saturday afternoon at Immergun Golf Club in Loretto, Pa., by compiling 108 points.
Sacred Heart claimed the team championship with 44 points, outlasting Bryant, which finished second with 53 points. Mount St. Mary's claimed third with 104 points, and following the Colonials were Saint Francis U. (128), Central Connecticut State 9133), Wagner (160), Fairleigh Dickinson (187) and St. Francis Brooklyn (218).
RMU had a pair of student-athletes earn All-NEC honors, as junior
Marissa Polk (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Oakland Catholic) and senior
Lindsay Erath (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell) each garnered the honor for the first time in their respective careers.
Polk finished 10th individually with a time of 19:58 in the five-kilometer course, while Erath placed 13th at 20:10.
Also taking home a top 25 for RMU at the NEC Championships was junior
Alexis Ebersole (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona), who finished 21st with a time of 20:51. Rounding out the top five performers for the Colonials were freshman
Kacie Erb (Salix, Pa. / Forest Hills) and junior
Brianna Iannarelli (McDonald, Pa. / Canon-McMillan).
Erb placed 29th with a time of 21:09, while Iannarelli garnered 35th thanks to a final tally of 21:18. Rounding out the top seven harriers for Robert Morris were sophomore
Brittany Shay (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver Area) and junior
Alexandra Zielinski (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca East).
Shay crossed the finish line with a time of 21:36 to claim 40th, while Zielinski placed three spots behind in 43rd place with a time of 21:39.
The Colonials are next in action Friday, Nov. 15, by taking part in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships.
