Moon Township, Pa. - Sophomore Marissa Polk (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central Catholic) highlighted the first day of the 2013 Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in Landover, Md., Saturday afternoon.
Polk posted a time of 5:09.73 to win the second of three preliminaries in the mile and qualify for the finals Sunday afternoon. The time was also good enough to establish a new school record in the event.
In other events during the first day of the 2013 NEC Indoor Track & Field Championships, junior Yulia Vasilyeva (Volgograd, Russia) placed fifth in the high jump thanks to a leap of 1.67 meters (5'5.75").
In the weight throw, junior Rachael Kotula (East Berlin, Pa. / Bermudian Springs) placed seventh to score for the Colonials, posting a toss of 14.49 meters (47'6.50").
RMU currently sits in ninth place after the first day of the 2013 NEC Track & Field Indoor Championships with six points. Monmouth owns the lead with 42.5 points.
