Colonials Drop First Road Contest of the Season

Davidson, N.C. - The Robert Morris University women's lacrosse kicked off its annual spring break road trip with an evening game against Davidson on Tuesday. In a contest in which the Colonials would never hold the lead, RMU would fall, 13-6 as the squad has now lost its last three games.

Davidson would open the scoring just over two minutes in to the contest before the Colonials would answer five minutes later.  Emily VanDyne (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Thomas) would tie the game, 1-1, with her seventh goal of the season.  The Wildcats would regain the lead a short time later before adding two goals just 43 seconds apart to make the score 4-1 with 16:30 remaining in the first half.

Coming out of a timeout called by head coach Katy Phillips (Ninth Season / New Hampshire), Brittany Byerly (Wexford, Pa. / Pine-Richland) would score her 13th goal of the season on a free-position attempt to cut the deficit in half, 4-2.  Emily Jamison (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) would follow Byerly's tally with her 14th goal of the season off of a feed from Emma Baukhages (Gambrills, Md. / Indian Creek) as RMU was within a goal with the score 4-3 and nine minutes remaining in the half.  Less than two minutes later, Baukhages would connect with Jamison again as the three consecutive goals from the Colonials tied the game, 4-4.

The Colonials were unable to take the lead as a goal by Davidson would give the Wildcats a 5-4 advantage with four minutes remaining in the first half.  Before the end of the half, Davidson would add two more goals as the score heading in to halftime saw Robert Morris down three goals, 7-4.

Davidson would open up the second half with more of the same as the Wildcats would pick up two goals in the first four minutes to jump out to a 9-4 advantage.  A tenth Davidson goal would come ten minutes in to the second half before the Wildcats would stretch their lead to eight before the Colonials found the back of the net again.

With less than eighteen minutes remaining, Jessica Rutherford (Pylesville, Md. / North Harford) would score her 13th goal of the season off of an assist from Jessica Karwacki (Sparks, Md. / Hereford) as the score became 12-5.  Byerly would pick up her second goal of the game as she scored again on a free-position attempt to cut the Robert Morris deficit to 12-6.

After the two goals by RMU, Davidson would answer with a goal of their own with ten minutes remaining as the score stood at 13-6.  Neither team would pick up another goal in the final minutes as the game came to an end with Robert Morris on the wrong side of a 13-6 final.

Starting every game in net for the Colonials this season, junior Kaitlin Pentz (Sykesville, Md. / Century) saw her record fall to .500 at 3-3 despite a strong 10-save performance, her second consecutive double-digit save performance in a loss.

The Colonials return to action Saturday afternoon as they conclude their two-game road trip during spring break with a Noon contest against Liberty.
