Niagara University, N.Y. - The Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team headed north for the first time this season as they traveled to take on Niagara on Saturday afternoon.  On a cold, blustery day, the Colonials would remain undefeated as they picked up their third win of the season over the Purple Eagles by the score of 18-6.

The Colonials would strike first as freshman Corey Karwacki (Sparks, Md. / Hereford) picked up her first goal of the contest less than 90 seconds after the opening draw.  Robert Morris would add a second goal ten minutes in to the contest as Jessica Rutherford (Pylesville, Md. / North Harford) found the back of the net off of a feed from fellow sophomore Stefany Gale (Cicero, N.Y. / Cicero-North Syracuse).  Two minutes after Rutherford's tally, Niagara would pick up their first goal of the game to make the score 2-1 in favor of RMU.

After allowing the goal, the Colonials would respond with three consecutive goals before the end of the half as Lauren Roberts (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) would produce the third goal of the game for RMU off of a pass from Kristin Yoviene (Easton, Md. / Saints Peter and Paul).  Karwacki would follow up the goal by Roberts with her second tally of the contest to give Robert Morris a three-goal advantage.  The Colonials would add on to their lead with a free-position goal late in the first half by Brittany Byerly (Wexford, Pa. / Pine-Richland).  After the first thirty minutes of play, the Colonials would hold a 5-1 lead as goaltender Kaitlin Pentz (Sykesville, Md. / Century) made eight saves on the nine shots she faced in the first half while RMU converted on five of its seven shots on the Niagara goal.

Niagara would rebound to start the second half and pick up a goal just 40 seconds in before scoring again to make the score 5-3 with two goals 30 seconds apart.  Byerly would stop the momentum for the Purple Eagles as she picked up her second goal of the game to regain the three-goal lead for RMU.  After Byerly's second of the match, Emily Jamison (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) would add herself to the score sheet with her first of the game as she was set up by Emily VanDyne (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Thomas) to make the score 7-3.  Niagara would record their fourth goal of the game five minutes in to the second half before making the score 7-5 a short time later.

After some turnovers by each team, Rutherford would find the back of the net for her second goal of the game with twenty minutes remaining.  Karwacki would record a hat trick for the second consecutive game as she put home her third goal on a free-position shot to make the score 9-5 in favor of the Colonials.  Seeing action for the first time this season, MacKenzie Lawler (Okemos, Mich. / Okemos) would record the first goal of her junior campaign on a free-position shot.  The Colonials would continue to build on their biggest lead of the game as Jamison recorded her second goal to make the score 11-5.  After contributing an assist in the first half, Yoviene would also add a goal to her point total for the game as she capitalized on a pass from Jamison to give Robert Morris a seven-goal lead halfway through the second half.

Jamison would team up with Karwacki as she recorded her third goal of the game to make the score 13-5 after receiving a pass from her fellow freshman teammate.  Niagara would put an end to the six-goal run by the Colonials as the Purple Eagles converted on a free-position attempt shortly after Jamison's goal.  Jamison was not done scoring as she responded to the Niagara goal with her fourth tally of the game with ten minutes remaining.  Rutherford would be the third Colonial to record at least three goals in the contest as her third tally would make the score 15-6.  Byerly would also join that group a short time later as the freshman picked up her third goal to give the Colonials a ten-goal lead.  Sophomore Rhyan Bofinger (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West) would join the scoring with her first of the game.  Gale recorded her second assist in the match on Bofinger's goal.

Niagara would score with two minutes remaining for its seventh goal of the game.  With just five seconds remaining, Jamison would pick up her fifth goal and sixth point as the Colonials would win 18-6.  Pentz would end the game with nine saves while only allowing seven goals. 

The Colonials return to the friendly confines of Joe Walton Stadium for a two-game home stand this week.  On Wednesday afternoon, RMU will play host to Canisius in an afternoon contest scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. before hosting city rival Duquesne on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. for the first home night game in program history.
