Colonials Excel in University of Virginia Invite

Freshman Olivia Loy (Lemoyne, Pa. / Cedar Cliff) set a new school record in the pole vault this past Saturday, as the Robert Morris University women's track & field team competed in the University of Virginia Invitational.

Loy's record-breaking vault of 3.52 meters was good enough for second in the event, while senior Casey Folga (Erie, Pa. / Harborcreek) finished right behind her with a vault of 3.37 meters. Loy also added a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.15 meters.

Also in the jumping events, Yulia Vasilyeva (Volvograd, Russia) placed fourth after a leap of 1.62 meters in the high jump.

Junior Rachel Kotula (East Berlin, Pa. / Bermudian Springs) earned an invite to the ECAC Championships, after her toss of 41.47 meters in the javelin. The third-place finish in the event was one of her two top-six finishes on the day, as she also placed sixth in the hammer throw with a heave of 41.29 meters.

Fellow thrower Aubree Ray (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area) also added two top-six finishes. The sophomore's toss of 43.78 meters gave her a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw, and her throw of 45.27 meters was good enough for a sixth in the discus.

Senior Kristie Domis (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) gave the Colonials their second second-place finish in the Invitational, with a time of 18:51.85 in the 5000-meter run.

The RMU women will once again visit the state of Virginia next weekend, as they are slated to compete in the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg.
