Colonials Drop First Match on Day Two at Wright State

Robert Morris fell in four sets to Indiana State.

Box Score Dayton, Ohio – In the first of two matches on Saturday, the Robert Morris University volleyball team took on Indiana State in a neutral-site contest at the Wright State Invitational.

After dropping the first two sets, 18-25 and 23-25, Robert Morris (0-9) won the third set 25-14.  The fourth set would be claimed by Indiana State (5-4), 25-19, giving the Sycamores a four-set victory.

Despite jumping out to an early 5-1 lead, the lead would slowly dissipate for Robert Morris.  Up 9-4, the Colonials offense would become stagnant as Indiana State would go on a 13-point run to gain control of the set.  Facing an eight-point deficit, RMU would not recover while dropping the set, 25-18.

The Colonials would again take an early lead in the second set against Indiana State.  This time, Robert Morris would maintain control of the lead through the majority of the set even as the Sycamores would remain within striking distance.  RMU would relinquish the lead with the score 18-17 and despite rallying to tie the score the Colonials were unable to regain the advantage.  Indiana State would take the second set as well, 25-23.

Facing a two-set deficit, RMU would control the third set from the first point to the last point.  The Colonials would take the first two points of the set before expanding their lead with a four-point run a short time later.  Robert Morris would continue to expand its advantage with a seven-point run as the score was 18-8.  The Colonials would take the third set by a score of 25-14 after an attacking error by Indiana State.
In the deciding fourth set, the two teams would trade off the first few points before Indiana State took control of the set.  A four-point run for the Sycamores would create the initial deficit for RMU, but a second four-point run would put the set out of reach.  Despite trying to string together runs of their own, the Colonials would fall short while trying to force a fifth set, 25-19.

April Krivoniak (Greensburg, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) would lead the Colonial attack with 13 kills while also recording four block assists.  Becky Jay (Parma, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) would contribute nine kills and four total blocks for RMU.  Defensively, Melissa Bograd (Lemont, Ill. / Lemont) and Erica Robb (Novi, Mich. / Novi) recorded 15 and 14 digs respectively.

The Colonials will finish the Wright State Invitational with a 3:30 match against Murray State.
