RMU Tabbed Third in CHA Preseason Poll

The Colonials received one first-place vote from the opposing conference head coaches

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Robert Morris University women's ice hockey team was picked to finish third in College Hockey America (CHA) for the upcoming 2013-14 season according to a poll of conference head coaches.

Despite the third-place ranking, the Colonials were the only team besides preseason favorite Mercyhurst to receive a first-place vote. Sitting in between Mercyhurst and RMU is Syracuse, who was tabbed to finish second.

The Colonials, under the direction of third-year head coach Paul Colontino, finished the 2012-13 campaign at 15-15-3 and won a CHA Tournament game for the fourth-straight season. Among those 15 victories were a two-game sweep of No. 4/5 Mercyhurst in December and a triple-overtime CHA first round win over Lindenwood.

Returning for RMU is two-time All-CHA first team honoree Rebecca Vint (Caldeon, Ontario / Brampton Junior Thunder), who led the Colonials in goals (16), assists (17), points (33), and game-winning goals (4), and tied for the team lead in plus/minus (+10). Vint recorded nine multi-point games in her sophomore season, and on Nov. 11, 2012, she tied a program record for most goals in a game with five against Penn State. She was named CHA Player of the Month in consecutive months (November and December), and comes into her junior campaign ranked fourth in program history in career points with 77.

Senior Thea Imbrogno (Etobicoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) was an All-CHA second team member in 2011-12 and led the team last season in power play goals (5). She also finished second on the team in goals (11), and tied for second in points (23). Serving as an assistant captain, Imbrogno was named CHA Offensive Player of the Week on March 4, 2013, and compiled multi-point efforts in five different games.

Along with Imbrogno, RMU returns four other seniors in Anneline Lauziere (St. Thomas, Ontario / London Jr. Devilettes), Kylie St. Louis (Windsor, Ontario / Southwest Wildcats), Kristen Richards (Toronto, Ontario / Niagara University), and Brandi Pollock (Virden, Manitoba / Westman Wildcats). Richards, Pollock, and Imbrogno will serve as the 2013-14 team captains.

The Colonials will begin exhibition play next weekend, Sunday, Sept. 29, against the Toronto Aeros. Faceoff is set for 1:05 p.m. at 84 Lumber Arena.
