Pittsburgh, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University women's ice hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 first period advantage and never looked back, defeating the Toronto Junior Aeros, 6-2, in exhibition play this afternoon.
Thea Imbrogno (Etobicoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) was the leading goal scorer for the Colonials, registering a hat trick on the day. The senior assistant captain broke through 8:19 into the game, finding the back of the net off a breakaway. The forward would strike again less than two minutes later, as she buried the puck off assists from junior
Maddie Collias (Roseville, Mich. / Belle Tire) and sophomore
Megan Eady (Renfew, Ontario / Nepean Wildcats).
RMU would pick up their third goal of the first 20 minutes on a power play, as junior
Rebecca Vint (Caldeon, Ontario / Brampton Junior Thunder) collected a pass from Collias and rattled the cage with just five seconds remaining. The secondary assist went to freshman
Mikaela Lowater (Thornhill, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs), who started the play by completing a pass to Collias from the defensive zone.
Imbrogno would pick up her hat trick 18:05 into the second period, as the senior gathered a pass from Vint before pushing the puck past the goaltender. The power play goal also gave Lowater her second assist of the afternoon.
The Aeros would get on the board early in the third period off the power play. Jessica Gazzola found Julia Fedeski on the left side and Gazzola snuck it past the Colonial goaltender.
RMU would answer back less than a minute later when Collias scored off a pass from Vint. Then, just 43 seconds after the junior forward's goal, freshman forward
