Smithfield, R.I. –
Senior guard Karvel Anderson's (Elkhart, Ind. / Glen Oaks Community College) jumper with 38 seconds to play snapped a 67-67 tie and helped lift the Robert Morris University men's basketball team to its second straight win Saturday, 71-67 over Bryant at the Chace Athletic Center.

The Bulldogs had an opportunity to tie the game with less than 25 seconds, but senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate (Washington, D.C. / Charis Prep) came up with a steal of a Corey Maynard pass. Bryant was forced to foul, but with 18.5 seconds remaining the Colonials were whistled with a five-second violation, turning the ball back over to the Bulldogs.

Bryant went for the win in the waning seconds, but a three-point attempt by Dyami Starks was long, and Anderson came down with the rebound. He was immediately fouled and sank both of his attempts from the chalk to help seal the victory.

Robert Morris improved to 7-10 overall and 2-0 in the Northeast Conference thanks to the win, while Bryant dipped to 9-8 overall and 1-1 in league play.

In a contest that featured 13 ties and 19 lead changes, Anderson scored the final nine points for RMU and finished with a game-high 32 on 12-of-23 shooting from the field, including 6-for-13 from deep. He also added four rebounds and four assists.

Bryant owned a 56-52 advantage with 8:22 to play after a three-pointer from Joe O'Shea, but junior guard Charles Oliver (Scotch Plains, N.J. / Lakeland Community College) answered with a triple of his own to pull the Colonials to within one, 56-55.

Alex Francis came through with a dunk off a feed from Maynard on the next possession by the Bulldogs, but a three-pointer from Anderson tied the game, 58-58, with 7:39 to go.

Francis, who led Bryant with 29 points and eight rebounds, gave the Bulldogs a 64-62 edge with 4:42 to play with a layup, but Anderson's sixth three-pointer of the contest pushed the Colonials back in front, 65-64.

Anderson missed a three-pointer with 2:32 remaining, but junior forward Lucky Jones (Newark, N.J. / St. Anthony) came up with the offensive rebound. He immediately fed Anderson, who connected for a fadeaway with 2:03 left to give the Colonials a 67-64 advantage.

Starks would follow by coming through for the Bulldogs, tying the game for the final time with a three-pointer with 1:16 left on the clock in the second half before Anderson's heroics.

Jones grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for Robert Morris to go along with nine points and three steals, while freshman forward Jeremiah Worthem (Philadelphia, Pa. / Math, Civics & Sciences) scored 10 points and grabbed six boards.

In addition to the 29 points by Francis, also scoring in double figures for Bryant were Starks and O'Shea, who finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

A five-game road trip complete, Robert Morris returns home to the Charles L. Sewall Center to host in-state rival Saint Francis U. Thursday, Jan. 16, in a 7:00 p.m. tip.
