Smithfield, R.I. – Curtis Orth scored in overtime to lift the Bryant Bulldogs to a 1-0 win over the
Robert Morris University men's soccer team in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams Friday afternoon at Bulldog Soccer Field. The Colonials have not defeated the Bulldogs in seven meetings and fall to 5-6-1 and 0-1 in league games. Bryant improves to 5-4-1 and 1-0 in the conference.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in regulation, but the Bulldogs needed just five minutes of overtime to tally the golden goal. A cross from the right corner by Connor Norat skipped to the chest of Curtis Orth. Orth chested the ball, then volleyed a shot from eight yards out that RMU keeper
Brenden Alfery had no chance to stop.
The Colonials had two chances to take the lead midway through the second half.
Neco Brett tried to catch the Bryant keeper off his line, launching a shot from near midfield that sailed just high over the crossbar.
Bruce Cullen then missed a tight angle shot, missing the far post from the right side.
Robert Morris will look to secure its first league victory Sunday, Oct. 12, when they travel to Fairleigh Dickinson for a Noon game.
