Teaneck, N.J. – Connie Lewis scored with eight seconds left in regulation to give Fairleigh Dickinson a 2-1 win against the
Robert Morris University women's soccer team in a Northeast Conference game at University Stadium.
Becky Schoenecker turned in a herculean effort in goal, finishing with a career-high 16 saves. It is the third-most saves by a goalkeeper in Division I this season.
Schoenecker made 10 stops to keep the game scoreless in the opening 45 minutes, but the team's would combine for three goals in a back-and-forth second half.
The Knights took the lead in the 59
th minute as Carly Tice earned the first of her two assists setting up Ester Rochon's second goal of the season.
Katie Austin won a ball deep in FDU territory before being fouled and drawing a free kick.
Kristie Hamilton took the indirect kick from the right corner, where it was headed away, but not out of danger.
Kayla Kelley was there, heading in her first career goal from 12 yards out.
The score remained tied until the game's waning moments. Lewis was finally able to solve Schonecker with just eight seconds left in regulation, her sixth goal of the year proving to be the gamewinner.
The Colonials, now 2-10-2 and 0-2-1 in the NEC, return to action on Friday, Oct. 17, when they host LIU Brooklyn in a 1:00 p.m. game at North Athletic Complex.
