Moon Township, Pa. – Junior
Madison Kozlowski's third goal of the season proved to be the gamewinner as the
Robert Morris University women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 win over LIU Brooklyn in a Northeast Conference game at North Athletic Complex Friday. It is the first league victory of the season for the Colonials who are now 3-10-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference games. The Blackbirds slip to 4-11 and 2-2 in the league.
With both teams feeling each other out early on, a quick counter-attack by RMU set freshman
Greer Monahan running down the left wing. She stopped, cut back and played a diagonal ball in behind the defense on the right side where
Madison Kozlowski collected and chipped LIU keeper Jessica Montrose to give Robert Morris the lead in the 17th minute.
Senior
Becky Schoenecker made the lone goal stand making five saves to record her third clean sheet of the season. Schoenecker also received help from a goalies best friend – the post. A high header by the Blackbirds Jen Spicer found the left post and across the mouth of the goal.
The Colonials also found the woodwork,
Kasia Bak drilling the cross bar with a volley in the 64th minute, but neither team would again find the netting.
RMU held the edge in shots, 13-11, while visiting LIU had the advantage in corner kicks, 3-2.
Robert Morris travels to Mount St. Mary's for a 1:00 p.m. match Sunday, Oct. 19.
