Canton, N.Y. – The
Robert Morris University women's hockey team fell to St. Lawrence University, 8-2, this afternoon in a non-conference meeting from Appleton Arena.
St. Lawrence (2-2-1, 0-0-0 ECAC) gets revenge on Robert Morris (2-5-0, 0-0-0 CHA) for a two-game sweep last season with a dominant performance from start to finish. The Saints scored twice in the first and second periods, and exploded for four goals in the final 20 minutes.
The Colonials picked up their first goal in the second period on the power-play. Junior assistant captain
Ashley Vesci forced a turnover in the RMU offensive zone and ripped a wrist shot from the point that zigzagged through traffic and found netting under the crossbar.
The other RMU goal came moments after a power-play chance had ended as senior forward
Katie Fergus sat in front of the crease and batted in a rebound off a shot from freshman forward
Katherine Murphy. Junior defenseman
Megan Eady was credited with the secondary assist.
Senior goaltender
Courtney Vinet started in net and allowed six goals on 29 shots before giving way to sophomore
Jessica Dodds. SLU pushed two of seven shots past Dodds in the 13 minutes she played.
Robert Morris looks to rebound tomorrow afternoon in the series finale against St. Lawrence. Opening faceoff is set for 2:00 p.m. from Appleton Arena.
