Robert Morris Blanked by Mercyhurst in CHA Opener

The Colonials were shutout for the first time in the 2014-15 season

Erie, Pa. – The Robert Morris University women's hockey team was spooked by No. 7/8 Mercyhurst University in its College Hockey America (CHA) opener, falling 3-0 this Halloween evening from the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

Robert Morris (3-7-1, 0-1-0 CHA) was blanked for the first time this season, while Mercyhurst (7-1-1, 1-0-0 CHA) earned its fourth shutout of 2014-15.

The Colonials held a lone 16-11 edge in blocked shots, led by senior assistant captain Katelyn Scott, who had four.

The Lakers struck first with an even-strength tally from Jaclyn Arbour about seven minutes into the contest.

Mercyhurst's second goal came two minutes into the middle frame as Megan Whiddon lit the lamp. At the 10:44 mark of the period, the Lakers picked up a third goal as senior captain Rebecca Vint sat in the box for an interference call.

Sophomore goaltender Jessica Dodds made 32 saves in the loss.

Robert Morris looks to rebound tomorrow afternoon with another game against its in-state rivals. Opening faceoff between the Colonials and Lakers is set for 2:00 p.m. from the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
