Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Wagner in a Northeast Conference game at North Athletic Complex Sunday afternoon. It's the first league loss for the Colonials who are now 2-9-2 overall and 0-1-1 in NEC games.
Both teams had trouble getting anything started on a cold afternoon.
Madison Kozlowski put a shot on net from 25 yards early on for RMU and Wagner (5-6-1, 1-1-0 NEC) had a two-on-none snuffed out when
Becky Schoenecker stopped a shot by Alyssa Azzinaro.
Azzinaro got even in the second half, however, scoring the game's only goal by taking advantage of a giveaway in the RMU box. After collecting the ball with her back to net, Azzinaro turned over her left shoulder before placing her shot inside the left post to make it 1-0 in the 56th minute. It was her first goal of the season.
Greer Monahan had two chances to tie the game for RMU. Her attempt in the 73rd minute was parried wide of the left post by Katie Marcy. She then missed high over the net in the 81st minute on a volley attempt.
The Colonials outshot the Seahawks, 15-10, and held a distinct 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Schoenecker and Marcy each had five saves for their respective teams.
Robert Morris travels to Fairleigh Dickinson for a Noon kick-off next Sunday, Oct. 12.
