MORAGA, Calif. – March 14, 2014 – The Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team concluded its three-game road trip that included a pair of games in California with a contest against Saint Mary's on Friday afternoon.  After suffering their first loss of the season in their last outing, the Colonials responded with a resounding 17-8 victory over the Gaels.

Robert Morris (5-1, 0-0 NEC) would have ten Colonials find the back of the net in the victory as RMU used a ten-goal first period to get ahead of Saint Mary's (0-4, 0-2 MPSF).

Senior goaltender Kaitlin Pentz (Sykesville, Md. / Century) saw the majority of the action in the cage for the Colonials, making a season-best ten saves in 53 minutes of action before yielding to freshman Hallie Yancey (Wallingford, Pa. / Strath Haven) who stopped all five shots she faced.

The two teams would exchange goals early on as Jessica Rutherford (Pylesville, Md. / North Harford) opened the scoring less than three minutes into the first half only to have her goal answered by Saint Mary's three minutes later.

From there, Robert Morris would take a 6-1 lead after scoring the next five goals.  Four Colonials would find the back of the net during the nine-minute span as Emily Jamison (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) recorded two markers during the run.

The Gaels ended the run with their second goal of the half with seven minutes remaining, but RMU responded and closed out the opening frame with four goals in fewer than two minutes to hold an eight-goal lead, 10-2.  Emma Baukhages (Gambrills, Md. / Indian Creek) recorded two of the final four goals in the first half.

Saint Mary's opened the second half with a goal just 17 seconds into play to make the score 10-3 but again Robert Morris had a response.  The Colonials picked up the next three goals as their lead grew to ten, 13-3, as three minutes had elapsed in the final frame.

Up ten, RMU allowed the Gaels to hang around with Saint Mary's picking up the next four goals to inch closer, 13-7, midway thru the second half.

After the Colonials stopped the run, the two teams traded goals as the Colonials maintained its six-goal lead, 14-8, with 12 minutes remaining.

Robert Morris ended the contest with the final three goals, making the final score 17-8.

Jamison and Rutherford each recorded a hat trick in the victory while Baukhages and Corey Karwacki (Sparks, Md. / Hereford) netted a pair of goals.  Emily VanDyne (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Thomas) picked up her first goal of the season in the win.

After a three-game road trip, the Colonials return home for a game on Saturday, March 22 when they host Liberty at 3:00 p.m.
