Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – March 29, 2014 – The
Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team fell to cross-town rival Duquesne, 13-8, on Saturday afternoon.
Robert Morris (6-3, 0-0 NEC) fell behind early as Duquesne (9-1, 0-0 A-10) scored the first five goals in a span of two minutes and held a 5-0 lead five minutes into the first half.
The Colonials got on the board midway through the half with a goal from
Emily Jamison (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) to make the score 5-1 and end the Duquesne run.
The Dukes responded with two goals to open a six-goal lead, 7-1, with 13 minutes remaining. RMU also collected consecutive goals with Jamison and
Lauren Roberts (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) and trailed, 7-3, with less than eight minutes remaining.
RMU allowed Duquesne to pick up three more goals before the end of the half as the Colonials trailed by seven, 10-3, at the halftime horn.
To start the second half, the Colonials picked up the first two goals with markers from
Jessica Karwacki (Sparks, Md. / Hereford) and
Kristin Yoviene (Easton, Md. / Saints Peter and Paul) to make the score 10-5.
Duquesne picked up a pair of goals to respond, but it was Karwacki and Yoviene that again potted a pair of goals to make the score 12-7 with four minutes remaining.
Each team would pick up one more goal before the final whistle, with the Colonials scoring the final tally of the contest with 30 seconds remaining as Yoviene completed the hat trick and made the score 13-8.
Despite making ten saves in the contest,
Kaitlin Pentz (Sykesville, Md. / Century) saw her record fall to 6-3 during her senior campaign.
With the non-conference schedule complete, Robert Morris will now turn its focus to NEC play when the Colonials welcome Sacred Heart for a home contest on Friday, April 4.
