Box Score

DETROIT, Mich. – March 9, 2014 – For the first time in the ten-year history of the Robert Morris University women's lacrosse program, the Colonials have won their first four games of the season after a 12-11 victory over Detroit on Sunday afternoon.

Down two goals at the half, Robert Morris (4-0, 0-0 NEC) rattled off six-consecutive goals to open the second half and held on for the victory as Detroit (0-4, 0-0 A-Sun) rallied to within a goal after collecting the final three goals of the game.

The Colonials jumped out to a 2-0 lead five minutes into the contest with goals from Corey Karwacki (Sparks, Md. / Hereford) and Lauren Roberts (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker).

RMU's lead would evaporate as the Titans scored the next four goals to take a 4-2 advantage midway through the first half.

A goal from Kristin Yoviene (Easton, Md. / Saints Peter and Paul) stopped the bleeding and pulled the Colonials within a goal, 4-3, with less than eight minutes remaining before halftime.

Detroit closed out the scoring in the first half with its fifth goal to take a 5-3 lead into the break.

Out of the halftime break, the Colonials would net six goals in the first eight minutes of action to take a 9-5 lead.  Karwacki scored three of the six goals in the run while Jessica Rutherford (Pylesville, Md. / North Harford) found the back of the cage twice and Brittany Byerly (Wexford, Pa. / Pine-Richland) rounded out the scoring.

The Titans would pull within two with a pair of goals, but Byerly's second of the game had the Colonials up three, 10-7, midway through the second half.

As Detroit again pulled to within two goals, Byerly responded with her third and fourth goals of the contest to put Robert Morris ahead, 12-8.

In the final ten minutes, Detroit picked up three goals to make the score 12-11 with 55 seconds remaining but RMU won the ensuing draw control to seal the victory.

Both Byerly and Karwacki ended the contest with four goals while three others found the scoresheet in the victory.

Picking up her fourth victory of the season, Kaitlin Pentz (Sykesville, Md. / Century) recorded four saves in the game.

The Colonials will head west for a pair of games in California starting on Wednesday when RMU will take on UC-Davis at 6:00 p.m.
